Assault on Criminals, Not Assault Weapons

The news article started out:

Irvington police launch new anti-crime effort

The tip came in on a Monday: A gun was stashed in a house on 21st Street in Irvington.

The next day, police got a search warrant and confiscated a loaded, military-style assault rifle illegally modified for automatic fire.

“That’s a big .223 round that will go through you and everybody else lined up,” Sgt. Peter Burgess told officers during a recent roll call at Irvington police headquarters.

Since the New Jersey Real-Time News (New Jersey has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the nation) had this story, I expected this to be heavily anti-gun and a supporting article for more restrictive gun laws.

This story was just ripe for picking up the megaphone and yelling about assault rifles.

Surprise, surprise, surprise!

New Jersey, being a liberal state, is loaded with crime experts that will testify all day and night ad infinitum that the guns are killing people.  I personally have never seen a gun kill someone all on its own, but I would venture to bet that no one else has, despite the rhetoric to the contrary.

Irvington Police Director Joe Santiago, known for being a Dirty Harry type of straight-shooting policeman, and statewide director of anti-gang and gun initiatives Jose Cordero have taken the crime bull by the ba…, er, horns and decided to try something new: they are actually going after the criminals!  Imagine that – a director of gun initiatives in a liberal state going after the people who are pulling the triggers.

I wish them much success!

My hat is also tipped to Chris Megerian of The Star-Ledger for the good reporting.

Eric Holder is the most anti-gun Attorney General that we have ever seen and we can thank Obama for that.  When he was sworn in he promised to uphold the Constitution and laws of the United States.  He is already reneging on that oath.  We have known for some time that Holder wants to bring back the ill-fated Clinton Gun Ban.  In fact, A.G. In California, it is illegal to carry or transport any firearm, no matter what type of weapon it is.  Added to this outright ban, there are added hundreds, if not thousands of exceptions.  This makes for a very confusing situation. Read more »

Bayonet lugs are also a prime target of the Brady Group.  Has anyone heard about all of those drive-by stabbings with bayonets (attached to the rifles)?  Neither have I.  Maybe that is if a person has a gun with a bayonet attached, I would bet a lot of money the bullets get used first! Read more »

They mention a threaded barrel that can accept a silencer.  They fail to mention that using a silencer in the commission of a crime is illegal.  They also fail to mention that very few states even allow the possession of a silencer and the federal controls are exceedingly tight. Read more »

Next on the list of things to attack are the folding stock and the reduced barrel length.  The reason the Brady Center uses is that they both “sacrifice accuracy and range” for “concealablity in combat situations” and “mobility in close combat.” Read more »

On page 22, more blatant lies are spread along with a humorous statement.

They mention a flash suppressor “allowing the shooter to remain concealed when shooting at night.  Also helps stabilize the weapon during rapid fire.”  Shame on you! Read more »

The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, Inc, AKA Brady Bunch, AKA Handgun Control Inc., etc. is on a roll again.  They released a report in November dated October 2008 called Assault Weapons: “Mass Produced Mayhem”. Read more »

John Longnecker is the publisher of “400 Years of Gun Control and Why It Is Not Working”.  He explained that gun control people use a formal formula to ban guns and it has been successful.
