A couple of years ago, California voters passed a proposition that defined marriage as a union between one man and one woman.
The homosexual activist groups filed suit against it on the grounds it was unconstitutional and the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals (which has about an 80%+ rate of having its decisions overturned) agreed with these activist groups.
Before that abomination of a ruling, they had the same rights as we do. They can get married just like anyone else as long as it is to one member of the opposite sex, but the Circus Court granted “rights” where there were no rights. All it took was a stroke of the pen on June 16, 2008 by a few activist black robes and the Will of the People (65%, if I recall correctly) was crushed.
On November 4th, 2008, the citizens in California passed Proposition 8 which amended the California State Constitution by defining marriage as a union between one man and one woman. The difference this time is: it is an amendment to the constitution and therefore cannot be declared unconstitutional.
Proposition 8, was originally called the defense of marriage act. California’s Attorney General, Jerry Brown, himself an activist for homosexuals, changed the title to “ELIMINATES RIGHT OF SAME-SEX COUPLES TO MARRY, INITIATIVE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT”. This was a blatant and unethical attempt to sabotage the passage of this proposition. The 52.5% to 47.5% victory was slim, primarily because of the changed wording by an activist Attorney General.
As soon as I saw the “ELIMINATES RIGHT…” wording, I did a double take to make sure I was voting the way I wanted. Nobody wants to eliminate any RIGHTS, which are God-given. I know that God did not grant rights for a man to lay with a man. In fact, such chosen behavior was punishable by death in biblical times:
Leviticus 20:13 (ASV)
13 And if a man lie with mankind, as with womankind, both of them have committed abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
Today, we love them as children of God and try to guide them in becoming Christians and forsake such behavior in the future.
